Ok, we all have trouble finding new groups to listen to, especially if we have a liking for good music that can't be catagorized. So,

If I like The Greencards, The Bills, and Two High String Band, I would also like ____?

Hey Mike,

I just saw Crooked Still tonight. They've got the energy of The Greencards but are a bit more non-traditional. Their web site (http://www.crookedstill.com/) has some music samples on it.

Just listed to some Greencards to make sure I was actually on the right track and my first though was that they sounded like a cross between Sam Bush and Tim O'Brien. One more thought. I just went on iTunes and listed to some samples of The Bills. They sorta remind me of Great Big Sea. You might also want to check out Yonder Mountain String Band.

It's surprising how many unknown Bluegrass bands, (at least "unknown" by the masses throughout the USA) are found on http://www.youtube.com when you put in "Bluegrass" in the Search box.....I've run across some pretty high-quality stuff there.

Crooked Still is AWESOME! My uncle saw them live and couldn't stop talking about them. I haven't seen them live yet myself as they're not touring around here but the new CD is sweet.

Lots of good choices listed here Mike, although nobody has mentioned Foghorn String Band yet. One of my favorites.

Well if you like those, then try.......Old School Freight Train, Drew Emmitt, Old Crow Medicine Show, Chatham County Line, King Wilkie. All younger bands with pretty darn good mandolin players too.

The Foghorn Stringband is a straight oldtime band. I love them, but would hardly (thankfully) put them in a category with yonder mountain band, etc.
