Can anyone give me the size and location of the soundhole on these instruments?
I would also like to know how they were braced? X or tonebars or something else?
Thanks

Hey,
I've been looking for information on A style mandolins too,,,they seem to be x braced with an oval soundhole,,,not sure the reason or the difference it makes from the F style with just tone bars, I do know the sound holes for the ovals are 1 5/8 by 2 5/8 ,,,anything you find out about bracing for them would be a help to me also,,,Thanks Russell

Bill, here are the measurements on my long scale (13-3/4") L&H Style A, s/n 682 (c. 1918-19):
Soundhole 1-1/2" x 2-3/8" inside binding.
Bottom edge of soundhole is 7-13/16" from south edge of top.
Single transverse brace (similar to Gibson A models), top edge 15/32" south of bottom edge of soundhole. No other bars.
