Had to get my post out of the middle of those pics. Very nice mandolin btw. Bet you'll be busy for the next hour or two. How does it sound outta the box? Lp

Great tone. Not as loud as my well played in MT2, but I reckon it will get there!

Hey Russ,

Good lookin' mando! I guess this particular Nugget has a real nice price? I'm just over here in Rutherfordton. We should pick sometime. Let me know. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

How long did you have to wait for that baby, Russ?

I put down deposit $ in March. I just got lucky and found a dealer that was getting one in, and who didn't have a waiting list. They are hard to come by. Most dealers who are waiting on a TOB have a waiting list. Rumor has it that #50 will be the last one

Russ did you have to tweak the setup or was it dead-on when you received the mandolin? Lp

One just went up for sale at the 12th Fret in Toronto. Thought long and hard about it, but finally detrmined that's it's not for me right now. One of you guys should go get it, though! www.12fret.com

Russ: Congrats! Beautiful mando. I also have a MT-2 and would be interested in how the TO model compares in tone once you've put some miles on it. Chuck

Gaither, Was passing through your town back in late April and had a great lunch there (on the way to Beech Mountain). Our trip included MerleFest for the first time and really enjoyed your part of the country; far different from the Gulf Coast. Is it too early for the leaves to change?

Hey Ken,

# # # Glad you enjoyed your visit through this area. If you ever get to Asheville{my hometown} you'll find a lot of stuff to do there in and around the town. Yeah, Merlefest is great. A lot of people though. #It's too early for the leaves yet. Try the 2nd or 3rd week in October for the peak. The higher elevations change first and work their way down. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I wonder if 12th fret got a premium for this limited edition model? Here is a photo of Tim enjoying one of his own models at Floydfest in Floyd VA, this summer. I had a pretty decent seat.

That was a quick turnaround at 12th Fret if sold already. #They were asking $5,750 and I believe it was still available a few days ago. #It looked great on the photos (I was tempted, but short of disposable $$!), so someone got a really nice mando there.

Its down as being "on Hold" but without the price - I want one! (bet they never make it to the UK)

Those are cool mandolins.
How are they different from the MT-2. #Are they varnished? #
Exactly what role does Mike K play in the building process?

You can read about the TOB's here (http://www.mandolincafe.com/news/publish/mandolins_0028.shtml)

so far they have been lacquer, but I think a couple are presently being finished in varnish.

Didn't Collings consult Nugget when they started building the MT1?

Saw Tim O'Brien playing with Hot Rize last night at IBMA. They were great, inspired and Bryan Sutton did a stand up job putting in Charles like licks on the guitar. Tim O'Brien's mandolin sounded just awesome. His play had attack and feel. That Nugget/Colings was great sounding. Was the best I have ever seen Hot Rize play. This was seconded by all I was with.

Was Tim playing the new TOB model or his old original Nugget? I saw him at a festival earlier this month, and he was playing the old Nugget...

The sound of that Nugget is to me what a mandolin should sound like. Love it!
