I put this on the classifieds to sell last night then changed my mind and pulled it. Can't let it go. After this I'm headed out to eBay to see if I can find a suit like this. The #scan was cropped at the bottom but has: Homer and Jethro - WLS National Barn Dance and RCA Victor Recording Artists.

When you look this good (http://www.mandolincafe.com/archives/homer_and_jethro.html) you really need your own spot on the web.

Check out the tree behind them. Looks like they were somewhere in the deep sunny south. No wonder they looked so happy.

My grandfather used to say "...everything comes back around." (i.e. clothing style{s}) - In retrospect(age) I am inclined to agree.. - Nice pic. Thanks for sharing. Moose. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

Hey, that's an oval-hole, I thought they played bluegrass! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

No harm intended, but I doubt "their" music was - or could be labeled Bluegrass - They certainly never referred to it within that genre.... Just my .02. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

Jethro's comment about bluegrass..."Someone once said I didn't like bluegrass. Not true, I do get a little tired of it, but they get a little tired of me, too."

Any Jethro fans out there no what his favorite sandwich was?

(Hint #1...He fried it in lard and made gravy to go with it!!!!)

(Hint #2...See the September 1984 Fall Issue of Mandolin World News for correct answer!)

Wow, those are a couple of superfly fellas there. I am not surprised that Jethro ate fried baloney sandwiches, considering his fashion sense. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

duuuude, Jethro(Kenneth) Burns was one of the finest swing/jazz mandolin players ever. Note I said "one of". He also was "one of" the best dressers in the USA, a fine fashion sense, that one.:D

You tell 'em Neal!!! - If clothes and favorite "foods" are relative to the music one creates - Let's apply that to the current crop of "new country - and SOME Bluegrass artists and their bands. TRASH!(IMHO of course). Carry on boys... Moose "from the old-school." http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif

well, i'm sure there's a really good joke that has to do with corny humor and corn whiskey here, but after seeing homer in the RED suit with that gold strat, i can't think of it... john

re: "red suit & "strat".. : If this refers to the above displayed pic.., the guitar is not a "strat" but probably a Gibson L-5 w. "natural" finish... AND Mssr "Homer" was one fantastic rhythm picker'. !!?? - I don't see any evidence of "corn-likker"...; behind the tree maybe?.. - Jethro - I believe- was a Scotch(whiskey) drinker - of sorts. - Regards, Moose. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

That middle pic of the two (where Jethro is playing the A model), those jackets would have made Jimmy Martin proud!

Yeah buddy!! - Now the question might be ...who came first, Jimmy Martin or Jethro Burns - The're BOTH from East Tennesse, ya' know...!!?? - http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

Right, Moose; Homer was one amazing rhythm player no matter what bolt of cloth his suits came from. That guitar in the pic above is an Epiphone Emperor from before WWII. He could play that thing like a monkey handling a peanut.

Moose,
Is Jethro Burns from Knoxville? What town is Jimmy Martin from?? I give up who came first. I'll guess Jethro.

I got to meet Jethro Burns and visit with him back stage in Leon Redbone's dressing room of all places. #He was playing with Steve Goodman who was opening for Leon Redbone at the Paladium in Dallas a long time back (late 70s? #early 80s?). #Anyway, after the concert I struck up a conversation with Redbone's tuba player and he took me backstage to meet Leon and there is Jethro and Steve hanging out in Leon's room. #I got to stay there about 20 minutes and they were all very cool to a 20 year old guitar freak.

Moral of the story - be nice to the tuba player.
