I have heard this song for years around Louisiana, sung by local groups, but I have never known where it came from.

# #It makes no difference where I wander,
# #no matter what I say or do.
# #I can't outlive this memory of you,
# #and I cry dear when I think of you. # #
# # #CHORUS
# #Somehow you wouldn't let me love you.
# #The plans we've made have gone astray.
# #Instead of staying blue and lonely,
# #I just think I'll go away.

It's a Stanley Brothers tune I do believe.

according to Stanley Bros. discography by Gary B Reid:

Recorded 16-Jan-1961
King Studios, Cincinatti
Carter/Ralph/Curley Lambert/Art Stamper/Geo. Shuffler (electric bass)

Lyrics as I transcribed them:

* I'll just go away * (C Stanley)

[verse 1 - solo]
It makes no difference where I wander
No matter what I say or do
I can't outlive this memory of you
And I cry dear when I think of you

[chorus - duet]
Somehow you wouldn't let me love you
The plans we made had gone astray
Instead of being blue and lonely
I just think I'll go away

[fiddle/mandolin split verse]

[verse 2]
It seems we could both have been happy
If things had only turned out right
From now on each day I'll think about you
And I'll dream of you dear every night

[chorus]

I definitely need to add some Stanley Brothers to my CD collection.

Thanks, I thought it might be the Stanley Bros., but I've never talked to anyone that really knew who recorded it. It's a great song with a good mandolin kickoff, usually played in F around here.
