Kalamazoo

I have a older model kalamazoo mandolin my papa left me.I'm not sure how old it is,but i was wanting to know what strings would sound good on it.I want to learn to play bluegrass/gospal music.And is there anything i can rub on it to bring out the finish on it?Make it look newer?Thanks for your help.God Bless
