On the other hand - a panjo - that's something we could appreciate.

Buckhorn,
Would you be willing to sell this? How does it sound? And is it used? I hope it's not used.

soo...what do you think? things are not quite right tho. the firt mistake::the steal won't support the preasure from the neck. as you try to tune, the enamel cracks and splinters... and that is the second problem. next time i'll try stainless steel..anyone have any ideas how to support the neck to stop the splintering?....keith

Keith Cary has been making the resonator version of this, the Commodium (http://www.keithcary.com/commodium/index_html/document_view?month:int=7&year:int=2005) for some time now. Joe Craven plays one. They supposedly sound pretty good.

I can see a lawsuit coming from the Commodium guy.

I would look at a banjo neck and see how the extension of the neck goes under the head and attaches to the inside of the rim. I believe the same set-up could work here.

Simultaneous post with mine, Mando Johnny. Great minds run the in the same bedpans. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

We gotta stop this!

Now everyone can get in an argument about whether enamel coated bedpans are tonally superior to stainless steel. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Those are modeled after the classic instruments built by Lloyd Loo.

With just 4 strings and AECG tuning would this be a upeelele?

Not the conventional oval hole and certainly not an "f" hole configuration; must be a "butt-hole" model. By the way, folks; Joe Craven can play anything in this world with a string on it. Well, maybe not a tamp. . !

Looks like a good instrument for one of my favorite Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band songs: "The Strain". Better known for "Death Cab for Cutie" and "I'm the Urban Spaceman", "The Strain" was on their final album, "Let's Make Up and Be Friendly."

From memory:
Hey, Hey, Human going to do the strain
gonna grip the seat, I'm gonna pull the chain
barb wire bum, baby, be like me,
gonna do the strain on the lavatory

Every time I settle down and try to read a book
the telephone starts ringing so I take it off the hook
Then Jehovah's Witnesses start a knocking on my door
I try to tell them nicely, but they still come back for more
strainin', complainin,
No ... I'm not complainin'
Just got a lot of octothorpes in me
gotta get it out

uh,how often do you have to empty it to maintain the tonal qualities?

buckhorn-- interesting... too bad its not all that playable... using a stainless steel would probably help out somewhat. I hope you get great use from your new "A" style!!!!

I'm a proud owner of one of Keith Cary's Commodiums. It is an amazingly strong instrument... and heavy.

I play mostly jazz with it.... but I'll pop that thing out if a banjo player or two are getting too sassy during a jam of any genre. It is loud but does not have the metallic twang that I had feared it would produce.

Jack, I think Jamie has the answer to the ever-changing tonal qualities; that Virzi enhancer has to be of some value! I suppose the builder will furnish some "paperwork" to explain care & cleaning of this gut-wrenching instrument.
