Lots of Monroe on YouTube! Interesting to see how he directs his
group with the mandolin, amongst other things.

But who are playing? The numbers
from 1969 are easy: monroe-monroe-yarbrough-baker-yates
(because I saw that particular group on the Opry) but who
is twinning with Baker on Body and Soul (also 69)?
Train 45 (1968 or 69?): Vic Jordan on banjo?

Uncle Pen from 56: Rosenberg's disco doesn't give a clue as
Monroe never recorded that year. And who is the guitar
player/singer on Georgia Rose and Voice from on High (seems
to be the same cat)?

According to my pal BD it's Red Hayes

Per BD..Answer to guitar player on Georgia Rose is killer. It is Jackie Phelps. He was on Hee Haw for years as one of the "eefers". Now deceased. Also played banjo with two fingers (thumb and forefinger) and sounds like he is using three.....

"Georgia Rose....must be a lip sync. No visible fiddles, Hicks on Banjo, Phelps on guitar (looks like Monroe's Herringbone with big pickguard, the same pictured at various times with Jimmy Martin), Lightning Chance on Bass."

Darryl!! - you da' man! - incidently, "Jackie" Phelps could pick a mean Travis-style guitar ; I - at one time(!##) had a Starday Record of Jackie instrumentals - played Fender Strat! - capo'd up sometimes. I stole'd many "licks" from him - still able to find....a few. Moose. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

That clip of Bobby Hicks on banjo is vintage!!!
He played bass (I think) and banjo, and mostly fiddle, with Monroe.

About Uncle Pen, 1956. I've checked up on websites listing Bluegrass Boys
over the years. Monroe used several guitar players in 56, and one
of them was Yates Green, who can also be heard on the Rinzler
compilation. Could that be him? And the banjo player - Noah Crase
is the only name I've managed to dig up. I saw him several times in 1969
but forget both his appearence and his style - All I remember is
some very typical clean triplet figures that he used a lot.
