I can authenticate the fact that it's a mandolin.

I have to say that I hope both Lestock and Ratliff go after this guy.

**sheesh!!**

I hope Ratliff got a whole bunch of money for that authentication if it was real.

Hey, if Audey says it's an Arrow, it's an Arrow (what's an Arrow anyway?)

You can get a new one in your choice of several colors for $79 from http://www.interstatemusic.com/webapp....ngId=-1 (http://www.interstatemusic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10001&storeId=10051&productId=900029488&langId=-1), but then it wouldn't be vintage.

Ad says that it comes with a "chipboard style" case. Now, if it was a genuine chipboard case I just might get interested.

Hey, c'mon guys, this mando "stands up to the distinguishing characteristics of more expensive instruments," or so they say. It has a top, back, sides, neck, tuners, tailpiece, frets, etc. So does a Loar. And it's been authenticated as being a mandolin! Not just any mandolin, an Arrow mandolin! With a chipboard-style case! Don't you worry about hurting its little feelings?

Taking this line of argument, I "stand up to the distinguishing characteristics" of Grisman, Thile or Bush. Wonder why so many fewer people want to listen to me...?

Can't be one of mine,I haven't moved up to the chipboard case option, my arrows still come in quiver bags.

"i'm starting it out at an affordable level so someone can get the mandolin of their dreams."
at least the guy's a humanitarian.
paul- it's too bad you didn't use that "fine" logo first.

It has a bid. There will be a lucky winner of this auction. At $150.00 it's now going for three to four times it's actual value.

Who says vintage instruments aren't a good investment? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I took the time to write the seller pointing out his errors. He responded as follows:

"Ugh... I see this and now realize I've been had. Audey Ratliff actually did see this mandolin and tell me these things. I will make corrections immediately! thanks for the heads up."

The seller ended the auction with a note added to the bottom.

Of course it's a genuine Arrow mandolin. It says so right on the headstock. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

The guy sells musical instruments on eBay. I sent him a link to this thread. I'm assuming he figured out it was bad business to continue.

Hey guys, my name is Chris and I'm the seller of this mandolin... I've got to thank the guys that emailed me and saved me from this mess! Let me tell you what happened so you can all rest easy. By the way, it's good to see that Paul Lestock actually posted on this board... I sent Paul a couple of emails with photos of this in an attempt to authenticate the mandolin and never heard back. I'm assuming they never made it through to him. Audey Ratliff did indeed see this actual mandolin, and said based on the new price of an Arrow that it should be worth somewhere in the vicinity of $1000. (I live about 30 minutes away from Audey's shop) I'm not sure Audey knew what an actual Arrow was now. I want to assure everyone here that this was in no way a scam; I'd never even heard of an Arrow (sorry Paul) before I saw this one and a search on Google turned up the www.arrowguitar.com page, where I saw Paul's beautiful models. After talking to Audey, and hearing what he said, I felt reasonably comfortable that I had an older model of the Arrow Mandolin that I saw online. I took every step I could in an attempt to authenticate it - how was I to know that some of Paul's early models didn't have stick on labels? I've seen other high end instruments that started off worse. This thing doesn't even have a serial # or interior decal or "made in" label. I have never heard of the "Arrow by Archer" mandolins that Interstate sells - I saw those in a link on this board. Anyway, I removed the listing because first and foremost I want to be truthful and accurate in what I tell my customers. Again thanks to those who emailed me, and I know you guys had fun lampooning this. Joke's on me - I bought it from a customer thinking it was an nice old mando! I should stick to guitars, that's what I know about!

thanks!

Well, Chris, you're a stand-up guy for pulling the listing, and I'll buy from you if you ever have anything I am interested in. Thanks for your honesty and integrity.

Honest mistakes are easy to make - I make dozens on a daily basis.

Chris did the decent thing - and his post here, complete with contact details and all, says a lot.
