I never have met Mr. Edwards in person, but from reading his posts here on the message board I would venture to say he is a first-class guy. #May'be someday I will get a chance to visit Texas and do some picking with Doug http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

Thanks guys.

I saw someone had quote in their signature line, "I hope to be as good a man as my dog thinks I am." That'd be me as well, I have a way to go.

Scotti, after the BRW #11 thread I thought you could use some stickers. I hope I sent enough to get you through a few weeks. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I still have a bunch of stickers left. If anyone wants a free one they can send me a self addressed stamped envelope. (1608 Murry, Cleburne, Texas 76033)

I've conducted a few transactions with Mr. Doug Edwards myself - though I confess I've not met him in person - and he's a first class guy. #(We've traded identity items - Silver Angel Mandolin shirts for M.A.S. shirts! #And I've bought some M.A.S. shirts for gifts from Doug too.) #
I've gotten a coouple extra bonus M.A.S. stickers from Doug as well. #They look great on my guitar cases! #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

And - if you check out his website - you could pretty much determine he's a great guy by the fact he's in a Gospel Bluegrass band! #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif # http://ntbbluegrass.com/

I haven't as of yet gotten to meet Mr Edwards in person, but I am only about 5-6 weeks away from it. But, I will say that he is VERY much a gentleman in the truest sense.

Looks nice Scotti! I believe mandopluker and I have the same builder in mind, Buddy Davis. Buddy builds some great mandolins! Whoever built that mandolin, Scotti, I must say that is a nice looking back!

..I think it has a slight radius on the fingerboard....Ive gotten to the point in my life and playing that flat or curved really doesnt weigh one way or the other with me...Ive owned both and I have had no problems adjusting to either. Its all about the sound to me. Im anxiously awaiting this one...wont be here until next Thursday tho...Ive heard and have played Davis mandos in the past so I know about what to expect. Mike....I would like to get together after I get this new one so I will be in touch.

Yes sir, Scotti I believe that will be one fine sounding mandolin! Congratulations! I believe that Larry Stephenson has played one of Buddy's mandolins for years. That mandolin looks great, Scotti. Give us a full report after your new mandolin arrives.

Thats right Dan. Larry S. does play a Davis and has exclusively since the mid 80's. I happened to be back stage at a little festival in Peebles, Ohio when Larry was playing with Bill Harrel...the Davis mando was a gift from Larrys wife on their wedding. Ive always liked the sound of Larrys mando and Buddy told me that this mando sounds alot like it.

Scotti, tomorrow is the big day. #Are you anxious? #I know anytime I am waiting for a new mandolin to arrive, I am so anxious I can hardly sit still! #The day of delivery I sit by the window waiting for the UPS truck to deliver the new toy! Scotti, let us know when your mandolin arrives. #I bet it will be a good one http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

Okay..Ive had a grand total of about 2 hrs to spend with Buddys mando. First off let me say that Mr. Davis is a Top Shelf man. He and I have had many a talk during this transaction and after each talk I come away with the thought that Buddy has a great passion for his craft and I respect him as a man of his word. To the Mando. The mando is top notch in fit and finish. Thats all I need to say. As most of you know I had many a mando in my hands so I know how to compare. Now to the sound. In all honesty...its absolutley the loudest new mando I have ever played. The Tone is there...its just waiting to be tickled out of it...hell its only 2 months old. Its got the deep woody tone that I like and the trebles are angeletic. The frets are perfect...the bridge is fitted perfect...all is to be expected from such a reputable builder...plus a lifetime guarantee..I have to to tell you ..it came with a brand new TKL case that I really like.I never have owned one...but its a keeper as is the mando. Mr. Davis has my 2 thumbs up. Its a bigger bang for the buck. I will love to answer any questions ya'all may have. I will take some fresh pics tomorrow and post.

Scotti, I take it that you are happy. Congrats! #I look forward to seeing more photos of your new Davis F-5 when you get a chance to post some. #I know you will be spending some time getting to know your new mandolin better. #Isn't it fun?

Is Darby Boofer still building mandolins? #I checked for his website under the builders section here on the cafe and noticed that it shows that his website disappeared in 2004. #Just curious, because I talked to Darby about two years ago and he told me that Buddy taught him how to build mandolins. #If I am not mistaken, Buddy is Darby's father-in-law. #Sorry for rambling!

Congrats again, Scotti! #I would love to hear some sound clips of your new mandolin. #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
