What a rare treat it was yesterday afternoon to hear Mike Compton play his Gilchrest on an open air stage. I dont think you can appreciate that sound unless you are there to hear it live!! CDs just dont do it justice. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

How was the Compton / Long show? I wanted to go catch them but couldn't make it. It's a shame to have those players so close & not see um.

Wish I could have made it down to at least say hi to David L. since I hadn't seen him in awhile.

The free summer concerts out at Corydon are a great place to hear live acoustic music. I went out there last summer to see Tim O'Brien with Bryan Sutton and Stuart Duncan (and fantastic Monroe-stylist Mark Royal was out there with his former band Bluegrass 101 opening up). Great show and location at the foot of Indiana's first statehouse.

But, it's a big weekend for Mike. He did that show and had to jump on a plane to be out in California for this year's Mandolin Symposium. Mike's a trooper.
