have just bought one of these of ebay numbered 11967-80 or 11937-80, i'm awaiting delivery and its hard to tell from the picture, could anyone date this for me. its needs a bit of work done to it but overall in fair shape.does anyone own one , i would be interested in hearing opinions, thanks.

i paid $218 for it.

Lawrence, Just a guess, here; I would think 1920s vintage. The tailpiece cover looks pretty familiar to me, but those usually get lost. I would think that John Bernunzio in NY could nail it down pretty close, with the serial number.

I think you got a good deal on it. Anything with the Gibson name is worth more than $218.

If those are the factory order numbers, yours is from 1923, as far as I can figure.

Hey Lawrence, Check out this web site; http://home.cfl.rr.com/tbiggs/Serial_nos. You will find your way to a serial number list of 1920-1924 pre-Mastertone banjos. I find s/n 1 1967-30 (close to the number you indicate) as an MB-1 dated 1923. This may be your instrument. Have you received it yet?

not as yet ken, i'm in ireland and its being mailed from the u s, so it may take a while, dan b's " shatter the calm " cd took a month to reach me recently, the sender bill hamilton, lamented the fact that they were still using long boats to cross the atlantic.
