it looks great; I rally like the brown finish. Hans will give you instructions on how to break
it in and protect the still soft varnish finish-it is soft I had a
minor incounter with with bike last week that left a tinny ding in
the varnish on the binding.

Dang, that is beautiful. That does nothing to curb my recently acquired a-style envy.

here's a close up of the top. #the shadow you see i believe is the master himself.

sorry, i know these things cause MAS, but if anyone is on the fence about ordering one, this should shake the change loose in their pockets.

I may be crazy, but in the picture it looks like the pickguard is almost part of the fretboard extansion. I must be wrong though. If not, that is an interesting idea.

There are worse things to suffer from than MAS. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/blues.gif

it's not part of the extension. #i just think that the strings obscure where it is attached. #the pickguards on hans' mandolins are absolutely gorgeous.

What is the price and wait for one of these animals?

I like how the fretted part of the fretboard ends way up there. I hate the pick-click I get off mine.

Hey Mandobar, that looks sweet. It has a bit more of a burst than your other M21, right? I think I prefer this one. It’s hard to tell from the photo, but is that the regular floral inlay on the headstock?

Congratulations! But you are duty bound to tell us how it sounds, and send another pic or two... it's part of the cafe code of honour!

well, flowerpot, i can only say that it was WELL worth the wait. #the sound, although the mandolin is still really tight, is WAY beyond my expectations. #this is a larger bodied mandolin; the sound is crisp, clear and the the chop is haunting. #i've played a lot of mandolins over the past year or so: gilchrist, loars, collings, monteleone.....in six months to a year this mando will make me forget i ever wanted a nugget. #

the only other mandolin i still think about is one of hans' F5's, blacktop to match the blacktop A he sold me last fall. #stay posted to the classifieds as i believe that i will be cleaning out my mando closet soon............(although i will not be selling anything that says brentrup)

Any chance you could give us a Brentrup to Brentrup to Brentrup comparative review?

peter fonda,

for now, i will say this. #i have a 21c with an italian top. #sweetest celtic mando i have played. (i owned a sobell for some time- too ringy). #it has a refined tone. #sweet big round OOOOOO tone.

i have a red spruce 21L. #more than enough bark to go around on this mando. #it has that woody g-tone. #

as for the new mando, think of it as my 21L x's four. #at this early age you can hear this big woof developing. #and when i say woof, i mean WOOF. #think of it as the rottweiller of mandolins. #in fact, let's just call her BIG RED!
