Throwing all caution to the wind and risking blatant, shameless self-promotion, my latest personal acquisition, the new Rigel Q-200, 'Q-Dola'

Hands-down, the best wood for a back I’ve ever seen come off the Rigel bench!

I don’t think it's breaking protocol hyping it here, as this one’s mine and it’s not for sale. I’m hoping with enough interest, we can make this a permanent entry in the Rigel line, though.

The perspective in that first shot is dizzying. It looks like you photographed it from underneath, which is impossible unless you have green carpet on your ceiling. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Rigel's white tops are beautiful indeed.

Ted, (and the Rigel folks), that is beautiful. Knock out.

Nice to see that someone other than me "ruins" their backs by putting a strap button there. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Congratulations, that's a beauty. I'll bet it sounds great electrified. Fun.

Is that on a bed of Kentucky Bluegrass?

Beauty for sure. How 'bout a sound clip?

Ted- how would you compare this to the R200?

Andy, I'm pretty much going to have to go by memory, as it's been almost a year since I had an R-200 (http://jazzmando.com/rigel_r200.shtml) in my hands. I really liked the R-200, with the F-hole it was capable of good projection, even being in the lower register.

Surprisingly, the Oval works well on this one. I feared the one drawback of the design might be "tubbiness," warmth at the expense of definition. This did not come to fruition; it really does have a big sound, warm without being boomy. It's not as punchy as the R-200, but there's some complex richness there I'm happy to trade for. Both instruments are good contenders for any D.A.S. (Dola Scquisition Syndrome, of which I've recently been diagnosed as chronic!).

Incidentally, David aroused my curiosity and I finally did plug it in. Oh my gosh, what a sound!

Ted ...
What kind of bracing is used on this model, and what's the footprint size of the bridge?

Curt, it's the standard (not cross-braced like the Comet), and I'll measure the bridge when I get home.
