Does anyone have any experience with or knowledge of Brunkalla mandolins? I know the maker is well-known for producing quality violins, but what about their mandolins? I am thinking about stopping by their shop on my next trip to Chicago.

I have one of his fiddles and get to play three of his mandolins on a regular basis. He hasn’t made too many of them; five or six I think. They have a very consistent core tone which is complex and full but on the brighter side to my ears, not overly bright, jut brighter than what I’m use to. Responsiveness is good. I’ve seen some great players that have been passing through get excited about them. You can definitely hear the improvement he is making with each successive instrument. The latest one I’ve tried is an A5 type and seems to be the favorite among my brunkaholic friends and it’s very reasonably priced.

Thanks for the search info. I didn't know so much had been written about the Brunkalla mando so far. My mind remains open though and I hope to play one some day.
