I already posted this in the builders section, but I know, well I'm choosy about which sections of forums I go & play in, so for all you non builders.... here's my first attempt at building a mando. the construction is a little off the normal.........

OK, I bought a mando off ebay and couldn't play it cos the skinny little neck just didn't get on with my big pudgy fingers.

Here we have my attempt at a mandolin with an adult sized string spacing (sorry all you purists, just ignore me & I'll go away!!!)

the back is an inch thick slab of mahogany that used to be a bench in a science classroom. I milled it out hollow to 3.5mm thick, leaving an edge all the way round as a side. The top is a plank that I found in the woodstore here at school, carved in the traditional(ish) manner to roughly 4mm thick all over. The neck is a 3 piece mahogany sycamore mahogany laminate with a scarfed head at 14 degrees. Faceplate is a little bit of beech I had laying around. Fingerboard is rosewood, bridge, tuners, tailpiece & truss rod from Stewmac (where else??) Truss rod cover still to be done, but will be similar to the one on my acoustic Les Paul

OK, I APPRECIATE that there will be purists here who will hate it and I accept that, but for a first attempt at a scroll I'm perty pleased!!
