Any information on this beautiful mandolin would be greatly appreciated. It's serial #3257

The mandolin archive has a photo of #3196 which also has the rope binding, and it's identified as an F3. The headstock does not have inlay, the tuners are inlayed.

An older friend of mine has asked me to sell it for him, so I'm trying to get as much information about it as I can.

Nice Doug. I'd say about $3500-5000. I think it's an F2, though the nuances in the catalog are hard to recall. Is there a hardshell case with it?

I had 3263 (http://www.mandolinarchive.com/gibson/serial/3263) up until recently, I should add..

What is on the label above the orville/harp label?

The label above the Gibson label is from a shop that re-fretted it.

The owner had a case case custom made for it. He doesn't have the original.

I wish it were mine http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Nice... Any more history on it? Any documentation or photographs? How did your friend come to own it? All of this can help in a sale!

My friend has owned it for about 20 years. He was mainly a trumpet player but he also played other instruments. He got it from his music teacher who had owned it for about 10 years prior to that. That's what I know.

My friend likes to pass on instruments he does not play. He is not a collector. If he isn't going to play it he would like it to go to someone who will. It's is going on eBay this week, so that is not certain.
