I've been listening to a New Lost City Ramblers album
lately, The Early Years. There's a song called "Sal's
got a meatskin" which I happen to really like. Thing
is, I have no idea what a meatskin is. I googled it and
only found the song title. Anyone know what a meat-skin is?

It's kind of one of those things you can't talk about in a family-oriented mandolin discussion board. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

The New Lost City Ramblers' songbook says that a meatskin is a maidenhead. The medical term would be hymen.

Suddenly the verses make sense:

"Sal's got a meatskin hid away
Gonna get her meatskin someday"

And if you think that's racy ... find someone to tell you what a "salty dog" is.
You can't get it at Nathan's!

Really? I know there are lots of suggestive
songs (can you hear the whistle of my big
spike hammer?), but some of the lines don't
make any sense in this context. Hmmmm ...

... wait a minute. Is Sal the same person
as Sally Gray in the song? That makes a bit
more sense to me.
