I heard a rumor that there was a MP3 posted somewhere on the Web of that old floppy record that used to come with the book. Has anyone else seen this? I have not had any luck finding it. If any one has transfered that to a CD or tape I would love to get a copy.

You can find it here: www.designstein.com/tottle.htm (http://www.designstein.com/tottle.htm)

6.5Mb, so it may take a while to download.

What would be great is if someone with more computer savy than I could break it into individual songs for easier use, and then if the mp3 could get hosted here for ease of finding.

Hi all,

I've broken the file down into individual song files and placed them on a web site. There are two versions of these files there.

The first is in AAC format. These can be played with Apple's (free) iTunes player. They are located in the iTunes folder.

The second set is in AIFF format and are in the AIFF folder. These guys are more than two times larger in size than the AAC files, but you can play them anywhere. I may replace these with MP3 files if I have a bit more time to fool around with them.

Anyway, the web site is http://homepage.mac.com/braccio/mandolin/FileSharing5.html.

Enjoy,
Pete

This is off-topic, but it's refreshing to see someone post files that are fairly Mac-oriented. #As a Mac user, there is always a slight irritation to see the proponderance of PC-oriented formats like .wmv, .rm, or even.divx being posted. #The Mac can play them, but you know they weren't created on a Mac. #Long live the AIFF file.

on the off topic-->
i am no big fan of Mp3s..for small, throw away files sure, but for anything else, c'mon, they are soo 2001.....My preference is FLAC, though SHN and APE aren't too shabby either.....

More folks need to get on the lossless bandwagon!

Hi Bart,

If sound quality is an issue, I'm with you with FLAC and SHN. However, these files were ripped from a floppy 45 RPM record to an MP3 file. I grabbed this file from online, broke the one file into individual songs, and converted them to AAC. I then used the AAC files to make the AIFF files.

So starting with a low quality recording file (MP3) made from a low quality source (45), I didn't think that having people go through the hassle of converting a lossless file back to a sound file was worth it. In fact, the files that I have posted are way over kill in sample rate compared with comparison to the source.

Howdy,

Sorry to carry on the "off topic" but as a point of clarification FLAC and SHN and their types are lossless compression utilities and not audio formats such as RA. WMA, mp3, ACC, AIFF and wav. They do not in themselves control the quality of the sound file only the size. They are nondestructive and useful for making digital audio formatted sound files smaller for Internet transmission and storage.

Cheers,
Rich
