No fish in this picture but I am on beautiful Lake Travis in Austin, Texas with my "boat mandolin"... my Kentucky 150S that was my first mando.

Bike MIke- that is not serious fishing! Neither was the previous photo for that matter. Here's the deal: Can you learn to flyfish and play mando at the same time? All this other stuff is, well, what should I say? An excuse to drink beer, sit on a boat and play mandolin? Hah! I'm Busted!
I did catch a couple bass that day... but I took this one on my birthday last year cause I think on one's birthday you should be allowed your first choice in activities.
Therefore, yes, several beers... and a mandolin on a calm near record warm late fall day in Texas...
I do this a lot, but the most fun is when my guitar playing/singing best friend is along... we play for hours at a time... and oh yeah... we always drink the good beer first!!

That hat that you two have in common is just like Lefty Kreh's signature cap. If anyone could flyfish and do something else at the same time, it'd be Lefty. Does that count as fly fishing and "playing" the mandolin at the same time?
I've yet to catch a muskie on a fly rod, but I'm still trying.

A proper rig would have the shaft of the fishing pole extending out from the peghead, (could double duty as a trussrod) and the reel handle should come out through the upper hole on the treble side "F" hole.
There should be a spring loaded notch affair to quickly jam the pick into in case one needs to resort to reeling in a fish. The reel itself would replace the scroll on an "F" style body.

Note: Bait casting model does NOT have binding on the backboard.
Reel spool comes wound with medium "E" string line. "A" string reel winding available by request.

Ron, now that you've made the suggestion, and as fast as Bill Bussman builds mandolins, he'll probably have one of those made, and baited with a "LLoyd Lure" before the end of summer.
I've got worms and a mandolin now all I have to do is rent a boat and learn to drink beer without falling out of it.

My new pick for the Bass Pro Mandolin that I've got on order. I couldn't wait for the mando to arrive before I tried it out. It seems I need to work on my right hand technique, but I did manage to get a G chop chord before the pick wimped out!

OregonMike- I'm jealous, just seeing that pic. Although I see your line isn't out- probably a good thing too. Right in the middle of some hot lick, a 6 pound brown would pick up your nymph and you'd literally be up the crick. Hope you're wearing felt soles.

OregonMike, I grew up in that area and theres nothing prettier then the Locksaw, Clearwater or Selway rivers.
Every year some friends and me head to the Snake River and fish, camp and jam every night till late. Its one of the highlights of my year.

Oh, I really miss kelley creek. I don't think you should have posted the name though. By the way, for anyone interested, you have to hike to get to it and there are not any noteworthy fish in the whole creek.

Oh, yeah, Kelly Creek has actually gone to heck since that picture was taken... lots of old car tires and no fish over 8 pounds any more.
Also the campsites are badly infested with Mandolin Boring Beetles (they ate 2 of our Eastman's but wouldn't eat the Johnson for some reason).
I wouldn't waste my time there.

Well I got some final coats of finish on some mandos today. Time to get out the camping and fishing gear. Gonna go for a 3 day trip to the Snake river (Idaho/Oregon) and fish for Bluegill, Crappie, Perch and Bass! Of coarse the freinds Im going with all pick so nights are as fun as the days of fishing. I'll try to get some pictures of both of my favorite things.
