I have a second or third-hand mandolin, made in Phoenix in 1974, signed by Juan Roberto.

Anybody know anything more about him and/or his work?

If it's the same guy who co-founded the Roberto Venn school of lutherie in Phoenix, his given name was John Roberts, or Robert, and he changed it to Juan Roberto when he decided to be a luthier, because he thought the Spanish name gave more credibility to a guitar maker.
I don't really know anything about his work.

Should be Don Juan Roberto, no? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Thank you, Gentlemen.

This particular instrument has a flat top and sides, but some sort of curved INTERIOR panel which slopes from the neck end to the tailpiece end. I've never heard anything quite like it, and can only imagine how much nicer it might have sounded, before the top began to cave in.
