Gary- shiny new toy afficionados may not get it, but you might be the only mandoluthier having even more fun than me! that butt end shot captures a feb18 '24 I know well. Hope you still have it when I get up there in july for a test smell, er, drive. Do you give antiqueing workshops?

You forgot the dried up masking tape on the treble side.

Thanks guys.Bill you know that's been my goal ever since we met,to have more fun than you. That's the greatest complement of all.Darryl, the cover is coming, hopefully today, from the gentleman who ordered the mando. He bought it on ebay I believe and was told it's a '23 ?? I haven't seen it.The base is new and I aged it a little,I hope the new and old fit together ok. The mando will be living in PA, so sorry Bill it won't be around in July.A workshop for antiqueing would be fun,I have developed a few techniques from years faking up fiddles and have taught several young fiddle makers.Since I can't get Big Mon's personal endorsement, I think I'll call it my dissatisfied costumer model. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif Seriously guys, Thanks for your kind words. When it arrives to the new owner I hope he'll add his words about it too.

Gary, you musta been playin' the h3ll out of that thing... it looks wore out! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif Great work... very cool! Do have any plans to bring it up to Salt Lake? It would be great to hear it in person. I got a chance to test drive one of your recent F-5s at the Wednesday BG jam a couple weeks ago... wonderful mando!
P.S. Don't let any Gibson lawyers see that flowerpot! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

So many details that I missed I know I know I know.I wonder how many impressions of his own signature are on the back of the original. When he gave me the first of many autographs he simply turned over his priceless axe and used it like a clipboard. I was 13 and thought that was the coolest thing ever.

Warning: don't touch this mandolin unless you want to experience some serious MAS.
BTW, I have to say, it's really nice to have a Gary in the area. #It's a real treat to see what he's come up with!

Lucky for me I don't have to! Talk a bout a conversation starter! Our playing time to jawing time ratio dropped by at least half!
But like I said, it was a real treat. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Dan,
I'm just up the road. You don't have to twist my arm too hard to start one for you too. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Just joking. I appreciate your kind words. It's getting sent away today to it's new home. But don't worry there will be more coming. I need to do some violin work this month but then it's back to the mando's.

Hey guys,
I'm the person who asked Gary to build the 'Faux Monroe' and wanted to share with everyone my experience working with Gary.
First of all, the mandolin sounds and plays great...It's without a doubt the best sounding brand new mandolin that I've ever owned. As far it's appearance, well I'd have to say that he sure got it 'right', and the pics that he's posted tell you a lot.
I received the 'Dissatisfied Customer Model',<g>, on Friday, and I'm just now coming up for air...been playing it in so that it feels like mine.
I bought a new mandolin from John Monteleone in 1977 and still have it, and I'd have to say that judging from this mandolin, that I'd expect Gary to also be a major name in the years to come.
Please PM me if you'd like more info on the project. It was a BLAST!

RichieK, congrats on your new mandolin. That mandolin looks awesome! Have you taken it to a jam session yet? I bet it will get the attention. Any chance of you making some sound clips? I would love to hear it, and would love even more to own one just like it. Take care and enjoy!

Gary,
That's amazing. I sure wish it would have made it up to SLC for a jam or two. I'm sure it sounds as good, if not better than the last several.

Brothers and Sisters, I want to testify! Last night RichieK brought his new Faux Monroe mandolin to the jam and wow!, it was all that and more. Gary Vessel is to be complemented for such an incredible job on the finish and sound. The smallest details were really thought out. The sound of the instrument is just as impressive as the look. It has a played in deep woody sound yet a defined clarity on the high end. I know Richie has probably already played it in for the short time he's had it. It is funny to know that it is a new instrument but one's eyes and ears say otherwise. Congratulations to Richie on such a great and unique instrument and to Gary Vessel for creating it.

Jim,
Thanks a bunch.Glad you had a chance to hear and play it.It was a lot of fun to build.
Gary
I was at the aformentioned jam with Jim. I can't say I'm a big fan of faux distressing an instrument. BUT that mando has mucho tone. I didn't get to play it being this was my first time meeting RichieK, I didn't want intrude on him. But listening to Jim and RichieK play I could tell the mandolin was something special. MAS was starting to flare up...
