Andy's work is incredible! The inlay is stunning; the Poe name looks classy. Real nice figure in the maple for sure. Did I mention I like it?

Awesome job, Andy!!

Very stylish, nice color too. I like that subtle binding on the fretboard and the way the scroll turns into the body. Very artistic.

Holy cow, that is one gorgeous mandolin. Anyone know the best way to get drool off of a keyboard? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif

I know his mandos look great...but how do they sound...

Apr-05-2006, 9:21pm
Scotti you talkin about the Mando or me:D

Apr-05-2006, 9:36pm
OK,,, so it looks like I probably own the last Driftwood that Andy is going to build. It is #22. A 2 point that Andy calls a DC4 model.

SO,,,, is this a good thing or a bad thing?http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif
I feel a neurosis attack coming on!
Naw, I really like my Driftwood and don't really care about the name on the headstock but it does make me wonder if perhaps in some little way something has changed.
Maybe some day if I want a matching mandola or something, I will be able to talk Andy into slapping Driftwood on the headstock just for old times sake. He is one of the good guys,,, he would probably do it.
Whew,,, now I have talked myself right around in a circle. That feels better. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Gwalt, so you are waiting on #4. Guess we will have consecutive numbered mandos. Heard the finish is going on yours now. What specs do you have on yours?

Atetone, you should be honored to have the last Driftwood! Years from now people will say WOW you have a pre-POE, Andy Poe Driftwood. I'll give you 25,000.00 for it!! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

DEE-AMM that is a great looking mandolin. The abalone inlay and binding work are a real treat for the eye. Lp

The binding is incredible! At first glance it appeared to be white/black/white/black, but after looking closer it looks like black/white/black/white/black, and the inside of the scroll looks you have a single bright white piece under the black....or am I just seeing things? The details that Andy has on his mandolins are just fabulous!

F5G WIZ, Poe #4 is going to be very similar to Driftwood #19, except it will have gold hardware, and waverly tuners. Good things come to those who wait.

Apr-07-2006, 10:14pm
Gwalt, Ah yes. Nice two point! Beautiful. Maybe you will have the first 2 point Poe? Don't know what 2 and 3 are. Mine is going to be a combonation of 16,6 and 17. The front will be similar to 16, an F5 style. I will have the quilted one peice back of #17, actually it is a peice of the same exact board used on 17. And will have a light color on the back, sides and neck. Don't want to hide any of the quilt grain. And a three peice neck like #6. I like the contrast of light and dark on #6 but I didn't want a solid dark color like #6. Make sure and post lots of pics when you get it!

Just my 10 cents worth...I got to spend time with GWiz today....the F5G he has for sale is a very good mando....Its probably the best Gibson mando I have played....not counting the pre-war ones of course....for the price hes asking for it I cant see anyone getting a better sounding mando. If I had the money I would buy it. Its got that fat..tubby sound....And a hell of a nice guy too.

Apr-08-2006, 10:30pm
Hey thats a heck of coincidence, my wife was just telling me that she thought I was fat and tubby! Thanks Scotti had a great time today. Startin to have second thoughts about selling now. Guess I'll find out in about 4 hours when the Ebay auction ends.
