I hadn't had the chance to see the DGQ since the early '80s, so I when I saw that he was playing here in town I had to go. #Snagged good seats, 9th row center. #Their first set covered te 30 year history of the group, from the first album (Dawg's Rag) and Quintet '80 (Dawgamtism/Dawgma back to back) to the latest albums. #Dawg promised a surprise for the second set, which turned out to be a sneak preview of their next CD in its entirety. #All previously unrecorded originals. #The band played great, as you would imagine. #
There was one more highlight for the evening, though. #This concert was a part of UOP's Brubeck Festval (Dave Brubeck is a UOP alumnus), and we were seated four rows behind the man himself. #After the first set he went back stage to meet the band, and Grisman seemed pretty stoked to meet Brubeck. #I didn't meet Brubeck, but was stoked enough about getting Dawg's autograph. #Overall, a very enjoyable evening of music.
