been listening to a bunch of jjcale (for those who aren't hip to him- lots of folks- mainly clapton and also a popular skynyrd tune are more famous for his songs than he is). trying to work out crazy mama- but transposed to an easier set of chords. anyone playing some tunes jj style???

Ira, the album with that tune on it is one of my all time favorites. What key have you been playing it in? I'll mess with it tonite, see what I can do with it.

My band does ...
Crazy Mama in E.
Magnolia in C.

I'm lousy with Blues, so I'll just hang on best I can. I'm getting better though!

Thanks Ira! That's sure a nice thing to say.

It's the phrasing, and note choices of the blues that elude me. But at least my band is a great partnership of skill-sets. Two of the guys are really good, life-long blues players and so I have the chance to listen to their leads a lot, and I've been trying to put that feel into my own solos.

Last night I idly picked up a guitar at my girlfriend's place and began playing simple blues licks around E7, A7, and B7. She immediately said, "How come you never play like that?" LOL (hint: because I was faking it)

At least I'm making progress, that's a good thing.
