I didn't know where to post this but since these were originally heavy metal tunes, I figured it would be best to post here.

Yesterday my wife surprised me with Iron Horses's 2004 CD of Ozzy/ Black Sabbath tunes. #I've couldn't believe my ears. #Iron Horse has captured the angst of Ozzy's voice and turned those lyrics into some of the nicest high lonesome harmonies that only a fan of bluegrass could appreciate. #The heavy screams of the guitars were replaced with some pretty tight mandolin, b@njo, guitar, dobro and upright bass. #

Every song on this CD is great, but the songs that made my hair stand on end are:

-Supernaut (harmonies & technique)
-Suicide Solution (dobro & technique)
-Flying High Again (beginning harmonies)

I have heard a few bluegrass bands do covers of rock tunes. #Unfortunately I was offended at the cartoonish nature that the other bands took when covered those songs.

Iron Horse took this project very seriously and did Ozzy & Black Sabbath justice.

Since this is a mandolin board, I will tell you that Tony Robertson's mandolin work is exceptional.

A must for any collection.

P.S. #This is the 2nd Iron Horse CD that I've purchased and I have no financial interest. #I just have an appreciation for their work.

I just went and checked out their website (http://www.ironhorsebluegrass.com/). Some pretty cool stuff there. You can check out a bunch of samples. LOVED the couple seconds of "Your Time is Gonna Come"!

Thanks for the heads up!

I wonder if they covered any tunes from the Zakk era. If so, I wonder if the mandolin player overspiced the songs with pinch harmonics, which Zakk does so much on the guitar. Just trying to do that on a mandolin makes me want to chuckle.

I am looking forward to getting the Van Halen / Bluegrass album. It sounds like a lot of fun.
