Looks nice Scotti! Looks brand new. I see that pretty truss rod cover has followed you. How many Mandos has it graced now?

Was the pun intended? Isn't this the one that got wet awhile back? If so, looks no worse for wear. How's she sounding these days?

Mar-20-2006, 8:24pm
...nope..not the same one Mick....Yea Garry you should know...lol....good to see you back around here. Darrin...the TRC has been on 2 mandos now....it will follow me where ever I go...as you can tell..its very special to me. The mando is in impeccable shape for being 5 yrs old...not really a mark on it...its been played but not enough.

Welcome back to the BRW clan, Scotti. #I am the proud owner of the next younger brother to #11, that would be #12 (Nov., 2001). #The original purchaser of #11 was a fiddler (prize winning) who wintered in Florida and communicated with me after he saw I had purchased #12. #He hurt his hand shortly after buying #11 and didn't play it much, if at all. #He sold it after a year or so and I missed a chance to buy it a while back when it was on the Mandolin Cafe board (too late). ##12 gets played an average of two hours a day and has really opened up with a fantastic sound and range, and is probably fully developed with the "BRW sound" - you know what I mean. #Aren't those Bill James tailpieces the greatest? ##12 now has an original which is the Bill James shape (not BRW shape) but with the BRW engraving. ##12 is currently awaiting the birth of his younger brother from Ben's shop but at this stage we don't even have a sonagram (SP?) or a number. #Again, welcome back.

..thanks for the background John.

Sure enough does look familiar, I happened to be it's first owner. Had to sell (well didn't really) but I tore tendons in both wrists, 4 operations later and much therapy, I can again play spairingly, Church stuff. I got kyblue's Rose and it's a great mando in it's own right. I like Saltydog wish I had known #11 was on the market as I would have brought it back home.

Scotti Adams
Mar-23-2006, 9:51pm
I just outfitted it with the nickle Gibson Grovers and a nickle standard Gibson Tp...cant afford the James Tp yet..yea call me stupid...but there is a definite change in the sound...for the better...the change in hardware has made an already great sounding mando better. Big Joe eluded to the fact that a change in tuners...a few months back....can change the sound of a mando....I have to admit that I was skeptical of that statement. But..this is the first mando that I have switched out..and I concur. James #11 will be safe with me.....if forever reason I need to let it go I will let you know.

Scotti, it's good to know you'll be looking after one fine tailpiece; I'd be happy to steward BRW #11 until Ben makes me one of my own.

Well Hello, Mr. JamesA. #Glad to see you're still hanging around the mandolin world. #I just assumed you had returned back to fiddlin' when you let #11 go. #I hope your hand/wrist injury is fully recovered.

C'mon, Scotti, don't plead ignorance here. I think I change strings less often than you change mandolins. New pics posted March 19, for sale June 20th.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. More power to you, man. But you gotta know you have quite the reputation for high turnover in the mando market, and I got a chuckle from Ken's comments.

[QUOTE]But you gotta know you have quite the reputation for high turnover in the mando market.

Not just the high turnover, it's the high hype followed by the high turnover. You've earned this reputation. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

Reputation aside, #11 looks like a nice one.

Good Luck on the Quest, Sir Scotti.

Scotti is to mandolins as Joan Collins is to husbands http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Oh, come on guys. Give Scotti a break. Everybody hypes their mandolins around here - whether they intend to sell them or not. The excitement of a new mandolin is uncontrollable. Just because a fella has a wandering eye doesn't mean he can't be excited about the latest conquest - even if he has commitment issues. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

When I'm buying an instrument (online especially) I like to see as many photos as possible. I like to get the seller's description of it as well - taken with a grain of salt. If it were the best mandolin in the world, it probably wouldn't be for sale. It just may be a huge step up from whatever I'm playing though, and it might be at a fair price too.

Good luck with the quest, Scotti! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

. . .such a nice looking mandolin.

A bit of good-natured ribbing could have been seen in my post, yes. I've bought and sold a couple, true. I actually had a thread locked down when I posted a photo of my mandolin for sale... so I'm not casting stones...

It's a sickness we all share, and Scotti seems to be a more visible poster child.

That's all.
Love to everybody,
Ken

If you love something let it go...

I want to publicly state that I'm all for buying/selling/swapping/hiding mandolins. I have nothing but sincere best wishes to Scotti. He just makes a habit of showing off his fine mandolins then selling them. I make a habit of antagonizing nice people.

It's what I do.

Love to all,
KS

Thanks to Bill Van Liere, Scotti, DasPunk and others for their fervent and earthy testimonies to Ben's work. He and I've stayed in a really friendly and informative correspondence for over a year, with me threatening to order, and, really, I can't wait to pull the trigger. Major life changes have slowed that down, but it's fun to be on the hook.

Best to all,
Bruce

As an owner of both BRW and Brentrup, I would like to add that I enjoy playing the BRW as much as the Brentrup.

Is that enough hype to stir things up?
