My M1 just arrived this evening at almost 5 pm! I have to put new strings on, but the instrument is in the condition I had hoped for and the case is even better. The case is a TKL type that is super hard and contoured to the exact shape of the mandolin with grey furry material, strap to keep the lid from opening all the way and a lock. The mandolin looks like it was hardly played since it was made in May 2003! Here's the mandolin with my new custom black leather double-braid strap from Loren Bailey of Georgia, USA.

Matt,

That is one nice lookin' mando! How does she sound? I think you went with the right strap color, looks good with all the ebony.

I have to say that even with the need to put new strings on, this mando is a significant jump ahead of the Samick/Greg Bennett I was borrowing. For the price, I don't think I could find anything else to come close—or should I say, from what I've seen, I'd have to spend twice as much (I paid $325) to get something I would like better. Of course, if you figure the really nice case I got, you could say the mando made up about $275 and the case $50 . . . and I got a capo, new set of strings and the case is a locking case with key . . . Maybe I'm naive, but I'm stuck on this baby!! Because the mandolin is flat with the oval hole, it doesn't sound like the A-body, f-holes on the Samick, but the sound is clear, and will be have stronger tone with better sustain when I get the new strings on. I have to decide if I want to wait for my JM-11s to show up, or just put on the Martin 80/20 bronze (which are .010-.034 (lighter than the GHS that Mid-Mo recommends).

As for the strap . . . Mr. DryBones meet Mr. Bailey, Mr. Bailey meet Mr. DryBones http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I like the JM-11's on my M-1 - had them on for like six months now(might be time for a change?). Once I start playing it, I soon forget about my carved-top Pomeroy and really get into the tone, how nice it plays, etc. Congrats and remember it's all about the music. As for the strap, I just tie the one end to the headstock between the 2nd and 3rd tuners. Works for me.

I will be posting a pic when I get my armrest on mine. I made my own strap out of 3 72" boot laces from WallyWorld and a couple of black wooden beads from a craft shop. 3-way braid is easy and I like the smaller profile.

Matt,
Yes,I have MAS bad. I actually sold another mando and a starter guitar that never saw any play to finance this latest and hopefully last(yeah, right)acquisition. Actually,I was looking for a lefty A Eastman before I bought my MidMo and this one appeared after so...well...uhm...I have no excuse http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif I am weak. At least there was no cash out of pocket, just rotating my inventory. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif I will post pics of this new one as well when I get my hands on it.
