I am a HUGE fan of Rock Tunes playing in Bluegrass. If you want to hear some of the best rock stuff played in bluegrass pick up a few CD's from Iron Horse.

If you checkout the Ironhorse Bluegrass Homepage, (http://www.ironhorsebluegrass.com/) you can see tribute albums to Ozzy & Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin & Metallica. As a matter of fact, there is a Part 2 Fade to Bluegrass album that I'm going to get my hands on real soon.

As for AC/DC, I think that there is a coverband called Hayseed Dixie ( I believe ) that cover AC/DC tunes in bluegrass.

When you are referring to Bruford, are you referring to Bill Bruford from Yes- Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman & Howe?

I have to admit that I am not familiar with the "Hells Bells" you are referring to.

Hey Keith- That's him- when he left Yes, he played in a band called UK w/ Holdsworth, they both left the band after the 1st recording (which I think is great) and Bill did 2 solo albums with AH on guitar- if you like 70's prog stuff, you'll love those recordings, i think. The 1st was called "Feels Good To Me" which has a really gnarly odd time tune aptly named "Beelzebub"...also features some vocals that are...ummm....well.... http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif #

I prefer the second "One of a Kind" with "Hells Bells" overall.

The Prog rock during the 70's was a big part of my childhood memories. #It's a shame and a crime that there are a lot of these projects out there that are absolutely amazing but hardly get noticed. #What's also sad is that that there has been pretty neat mandolin work that has shined quite well but not really mentioned.

I don't know if you remember GTR. It was a one time project with Steve Howe and Steve Hackett. #They had some interesting mandolin on that CD. #Now I'm going to have to go home and listen to the CD. #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

Right now I am listening to the 1989 release of Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman & Howe. #Every time I listen to song #6 The Meeting, that mandolin work always seems to cheer me up. #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Ooops I forgot to mention that Rolling Stone only gave this CD 1 Star. #I'm not quite sure why, it's YES and they always put out great work.

Steve Howe did some nice mando work on his early (and later for that matter) solo albums- I like the "beginnings" album, his first solo album from '75.

Rolling Stone (and Creem and lots of other rock press) liked to give Yes a hard time. Zappa said this about rock critics:

People who can't write
writing about people who can't play
for people who can't read.

Correct. The concept sounds absurd initially (laugh, or cry) but once you've heard them you realize they're very serious about what they do and are absolutely incredible musicians. #AC/DC, note for note. #

I even heard that Angus and the boys were so flattered that they had them do a private concert for them.

It's funny that you should mention Hayseed Dixie. My wife and I were listening to some Hayseed Dixie clip the other night. Apparently they have an album of just 80's cover tunes.

It's kind of different to hear "Angel in a Centerfold" done in bluegrass.

Just another one of those miserable "tribute albums" where everything is turned into a bluegrass polka. The genetic throwback vocals just take it a bit further.

Maybe they ought to do a Temptations "tribute" next, so they can go blacktop and interject a lot of "Yow-sahs" and be really "hilarious".
