I'd have to guess around $1200. without that screw in the back. What is it doing?

Well, it appears you have a 1916 A Model. Mandolin Archive (http://www.mandolinarchive.com/perl/list_mandolins.pl)
This one (http://www.elderly.com/vintage/items/90U-4113.htm) is getting $1450.

A4- I think not. Maybe an A1.
Sound hold trim is wrong for an A4
disclaimer- I am not an expert by any means (but I do have an A4 paddle head from 1917 or so)
An A-4 would have a Fleur-De-lis, Handel tuners, and wine red color and different rosette around sound hole.

I paid a lot more for an A-1 than the prices quoted here. But it had a very special sound. I paid for the sound.

Hard to say from that angle, but it sure looks like a strap button to me.
