There was a (1995) 2-CD tribute called Rattlesnake Guitar: The Music of Peter Green (http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:0vv1z8oaoyvn). Gallagher has two tracks on it, one of which, "Leaving Town Blues" has a lot of prominant mandolin and slide guitar, almost ala Ry Cooder. #Really fine performance on that.

Good record which can be found as a cutout at half.com (http://product.half.ebay.com/_W0QQcpidZ1808276QQprZ3194719) or Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000003TQC/qid=1141308027/sr=2-1/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_1/103-6750403-3959022?s=music&v=glance&n=5174). There's a 30 second excerpt of the track at the Amazon page (above).

Paul, do you have any of the numerous BBC "In Concert" radio#shows Rory did?

I have the 2-cd compilation Rory Gallagher: BBC Session and he is really smoking it up on that (no mando tracks thoug). #The liner notes said that there were 10 hours or so of live material from which the performances for the compilation were selected. a week or so ago, XM was supposed to have broadcast a 72 BBC Rory show, but it got pre-empted for a live Rolling Stones in Brazil concert. I was hoping to record that.

If you dig Rory you should consider this 3 DVD collection with 5 concerts recorded 1976-1992.

on one of the shows he is smoking Going To My Hometown on his Martin mandolin and it really rocks !

This song was the first song with mandolin that blew my mind ...though way back then I didnīt knew that it was a mandolin ( I was 16 years old .... now I am 38 )
