just got back from practice, and we did a killer norwegian wood (just a guitar and mando, trading the stanzas and the bridge on vocals). it was a great tune for exploring rythmic patterns, and for mando on the initial riff and for solo (did it kind of sitary, and it sounded great).

which beatles tunes do you rockmando folks do?http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

I like the transcription of My Life that Mandobar mentions above.

"I Feel Fine"-the main riff and the solo work perfectly on mando.
The sarod part on "The Inner Light" is fun to play.
"She's A Woman" as a fiddle tune that I got off the album "Beatles Country" by the Charles River Valley Boys and I came up with my own crosspicking arrangements of "Love Me Do" and "P.S. I Love You".

Apr-02-2004, 11:35am
We do "I've Just Seen a Face".

Apr-02-2004, 12:56pm

"The Inner Light" can be very interesting...

My favorite that I like for mando is "Elanor Rigby" it suits the mando just fine

Apr-07-2004, 5:58pm
anyone try "my sweet lord" by george?

Apr-10-2004, 9:46pm
Oh!!! 'Blackbird'...just kinda mess around with chords and it sounds pretty cool. 'Birthday' is also fun, I agree. Being an avid Beatles fan, I think that you've inspired me to learn a few tunes on the mando. Woo!

The Hooters do/did a live version of Lucy in the Sky that ended up recorded someplace that features mando that is pretty awesome.

I wonder why the Beatles never used a mando? There was a lot of fiddle in DON'T PASS ME BY that I suppose would mean it could be arranged easily for mandolin.

I just tried to do Revolution #9 did'nt pan out!

Apr-11-2004, 12:58pm
"What's the New Mary Jane" doesn't work well on the mando either...

Apr-11-2004, 1:09pm
Grier, Flinner & Phillips do an awesome version of " I Want You, She's So Heavy"- the mando part is downright spooky.
Nashville Mando Ensemble covers 3 Beatles tunes.

I do Eleanor Rigby, Yesterday, I've Just seen a Face.

Play on the Beatles!!! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

I played 'I wanna hold your hand' last night... Not knowing the tune at all it was difficult but fun (coming from straight bluegrass there were chords in there that weren't I IV or V and took a bit to catch on... what were those whacky Beatles thinking!)

For you Abbey Road fans, here's a pic of me paying homage in front of EMI studios crossing the famous zebra crosswalk a couple weeks ago...

I only wish I was carrying a mando case... http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

You actually take your life in your hands doing this--the traffic is pretty intense...

Apr-17-2004, 2:54pm
hey bruce, why are you wearing shoes???
great shots.
btw- whats with the wavy lines?

Apr-17-2004, 3:03pm
I dunno.....
Might mean "caution" or something...

I do know that a few people have been killed in this crosswalk, and at least one of them didn't have any shoes on...

Just got asked to play at a graduation party for some friends' son and I was thinking of throwing "Blackbird" onto the playlist. Then remembered their ethnicity and realized what a bad choice this was! Bad rixter, bad. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

After watching Tommy Emmanual perform an incredible acoustic guitar rendition of "Lady Madonna", I tried it on my mando. What a fun song to play. I'm not anywhere near Mr E's level of exoitic but I burnt callouses trying. Cool song. Hopster
