I bought a cheap banjo uke to restore and it turned out to be in much worse shape than I thought. I decided to experiment a little. I got rid of the torn skin and cut a doug fir flat top for it. Then I made a home brewed resonator with an aluminum mini pie pan. The tail piece was missing and I cobbled up a piece of maple. The tuners were gone, so I installed geared tuners so I could put steel strings on it. The bridge is just a piece of thin maple the right size. The top isn't glued in yet and is a little cockeyed in the picture.

It actually sounds reasonably okay tuned like a mando.
