This sent to me by my pal Bob in Chicago. His wife had this cake made for his birthday. Some baker I'd say.

Holy cow. That graining in the top is pretty realistic looking. My wife thought it was a real mandolin at first glance.

That's love! Very sweet tone I'm sure. Happy Birthday, Bob in Chicago!

The truss rod needs tightened.... a bit too much relief in the neck. Bob, I suggest you send it down here for me to, uh, "adjust" for you!

That mandolin looks like it would be a piece of cake to play. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Too bad it's a cheap plywood top! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Hah, happy birthday bob. I'll dig up pictures of my wedding cake- it had a Kay mandolin leaning on it amongst other details http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

The only way that cake could be any more impressive would be if it were an F style. Maybe next year, Bob!

Kind of a odd string spacing, how wide is the neck at the nut? Hope you don't hit a Virzi when you cut into it.

Okay, you know how some guys can identify a Loar just from the grain pattern? I believe I identified the baker of this cake the same way... (Sweet Thang, on North Avenue in Chicago).
The peghead logo implies it went back to the baker for refrosting in the 50s http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

You can't have your mandolin and eat it http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

The nut looks to be a long slivered almond....

I've made several mandolin cakes, but that puts them all to shame. I bow before greatness!
