#1 in Walnut and Douglas Fir is done and sounds great. #2 is about half way built. I'd like to tank all of you for your great help which stopped me from making many more mistakes than I made while building this one. Hopefully every future one will be made with less and less mistakes. I wish I knew how to post better quility pictures and still meet the size requirements.
Thanks again all.

The little research I did said that the Walnut had a darker tone than maple and that the fir had a brighter tone than spruce. Since I had a lot of walnut I used it and found a dry piece of quarter sawn fir at Lowes for the top. I thought this would make it sound cancle out to turn into a standard sounding bluegrass mandolin. I don't know if it worked, but the mandolin sure sounds great. I hope I can repoduce the sound on the second one. Thanks,
Bill Pruitt

Bill that is great work. Especially the peghead inlay on #1. Looks like there are many years of woodworking experience as evidenced by your choice of woods. How bout a few sound clips? Lp

Yummy! Gorgeous grain on that top, and the back isn't half bad either!
