I talked to Roland White on Thursday. Great guy. He was playing his new Gibson, and wearing his hat pulled low. Like Roland could blend in. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif
First time I have talked to him in 20 years.
In my mandolin case, I just happened to have a picture of us taken at the Station Inn when I was 14 years old. I showed it to him. He got a kick out of it. I really respect Mr. White for how he treated me that night all those years ago. He was very encouraging and supportive and made me feel like a mandolin player. I never felt as though he was treating me as a child. We talked mandolins. I tried to keep all this in mind as I met the kid mandolin players later in the week.
I wish I had been able to play with Roland again after all these years, but he was on his way out the door to his next student.
Thanks Roland.
