I have this mandolin which appears to have all original hardware( end pin, tail piece, bridge, pickguard, pickguard clamp, tunering keys and nut) #It is a total re-finish with no structural issues. #The head stock has the typical A-3 vine and The Gibson inlay. #No cracks. No sinkage. #Good frets. #Straight neck. #Good tone and playability. #I'm not sure what is a fair price. #Any help would be appreciated.

Great Googly Moogly. I've never seen anything like that before. That looks like a one of a kind and I would love to have it. -And I am in NY http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

That's unique. What's the serial number? I can't quite see it in your pictures. The Gibson experts are probably all at Loarfest by now, so they may not see this for a few days.

The elusive F-3?? It is the perfect companion to my 1920 white-face A3. I would guess a fair price would be in the $4 to $5,000 range, but what do I know, you may just decide to trade it to me for my rock collection.

Serial Number looks like 18343? #Not real sure. #$4000.00 is way more that I would expect, and since I'll be selling this soon note: I'm not looking to rape anyone on price.

Since it is a complete refin, it may not bring that much. It is an F4 from the late teens and is very cool. It would be interesting to know what other work was done on it. The headstock veneer may have easily been done when they refinished the mandolin. It is cool though. I love A3's and this is just way tooo cool. Unfortunately, the non originality of it will harm its value substantially. Still, it is cooollllll!!!

#Unfortunately, the non originality of it will harm its value substantially

But a lot less than that monstrous, handpainted-over tomato-top F4 in bad condition. Remember? It had the No-Mods folks here crossing and wetting themselves - and still sold on ebay for almost $2000.

I've bought two refinished Gibson As, and they cost me probably 1/3 less than what the average good price would have been for someething in all-original condition. If I were you, I would take some bids on it before I let it go. I don't even like whitefaces very much, but this one looks really good!

I remember that F2 on ebay some time back.. unless there's two.
The work, I thought, was 30's Gibson work.
Is this the same one, Conrad?

HI KEN

GOOD TO HEAR FROM YOU AGAIN. I'M NOT SURE OF THE HISTORY OF THIS MANDOLIN SO I DON'T KNOW IF IT WAS PREVIOUSLY SOLD ON EBAY. I CAN'T IMAGIN ANYONE NOT WANTING IT. IT PLAYS AND SOUNDS GREAT. (AS YOU KNOW I HAVE A LOT TO COMPARE IT TO) ANYWAY I'LL PROBABLY SELL IT. I JUST DON'T NEEED ANOTHER MANDOLIN--ASK MY WIFE.

On the fret.com one, Being it has Gibson straight across headstock, it was probably refinished in the '30s. The color of the sides and back look original
with that reddish hue. The one ffpizza5 has looks like the sides and back were
also refinished.

One interesting thing about this mandolin is the b/w binding. A teens f4 would have had just ivoryoid...I believe. Could be original factory color that was just redone, or mabey Gibson tricked out a sunburst for someone, and then redone .Not seeing the mando in person I can only guess
though.
