Ah Spring!

Well, spring has certainly showed up here in Greenville SC: the blooms (and bees) are out in full force.

What better song to enjoy while taking in the beautiful weather than "Ah Spring" by Chris Thile? I think this is one of the prettiest mando melodies ever recorded... I am in the process of learning it from tab, but the part that gives me the most trouble is the first measure! Gotta work on that pinky, gotta work on that pinky...

Is anyone else out there as gaga about this tune as I am?

Great tune....the co-mando site has the tabledit/midi file that you can play along with -- verrrry slooowwwwly, in my case http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif and it is definitely a "pinky work-out". My other favorite tune from that same CD is Golden Pond -- the mando and dobro just sound stunning together...

Would Ah Spring be considered a challenging enough piece for a mandolin contest? I (living in Ireland) know nothing about mandolin contests but I always imagined the contestants would be playing evil pieces. I can play Ah Spring pretty comfortably - even the ending which is beautiful but tricky at first. I think it's the emphasis (bounce) on the off beats that makes it!
