Here are some pictures of the newest Coufleau F5 he calls "Mando Ferrari", guess why ? This luthier lives in Burgundy (France) and is making some astounding instruments. He recently built me an black octave mandolin I've been playing for about a year and it's getting more and more power to it ! I love that guy ! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Nice collection. I like the "writing" style (headstock) on the ferrari. Modern and classic

Pssst, there was a ca. 1900 Neapolitan mandolin builder named Ferrari. As nice as this is (and it is: congrats, Phil), t'ain't no Ferrari...in the antiquated bowlbacked sense.

Nice to see the pictures of my new (red) mandolin here - Hervé sent those to me some days ago. I think he has done a great job, I am curious how it sounds and plays. I hope that I can go and get it very soon - I can´t wait.

Congrats, Michael! I hope this mandolin will become "The" red mandolin, as we say for "The red violin"!!! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Hello Michael,
I don't have the chance to have met you yet but please let me know when you come to Clessé to pick your GREAT mandolin since I'm living 4 km from Hervé's house, I'd like to meet you there. I will probably go tomorrow to his place to see the "red" girl in real ! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Woahhhhh, just got back from Hervé Coufleau's workshop, surrounded by snow but my morning was enlighted by the vision of a beautiful red baby (it's more looking like a genuine Gretsch 6120 guitar colour that a plain red) and I have to say that it is an ASTOUNDING instrument ! Michael, you won't be disappointed. I've been playing a Monteleone Grand Artist mandolin for the last 22 years and I really like your future Formula One red gal ! Hervé told me that you're supposed to come and pick it up next monday or tuesday but sadly I will be in Alsace for my work ... too bad ! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif #http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

After a long trip from Freiburg to Clesse yesterday (one way ca. 4 hours) I now have this red mandolin at my home. I played it for ca. one hour at Hervés place and I like it very much - good job Hervé! Thank you!

By the way, the color of this mandolin has been influenced by a picture of a Monteleone Radio Flyer which I had seen som etime ago:

Hello Michael. I hope you are (will be) happy with your new mandolin. I'm waiting for more comments and pics, here, or at http://www.mandoisland.de/
I love mine, and think it (she ?) evolved in a pretty fine way since july, but it's a very subjective point of view!
If you agree,I'll send you some sound files.

All you need now is a matching red case and your in business.

Lefty,

That fern inlay is something else. May be one of the prettiest I have seen.

Hi, yes a matching red case would be fine! I have two more pictures that Hervé had sent me, first the headstock of my mandolin:

That's a real beauty. The Fern topped by that classy signature inlay is outstanding. And the maple binding gives a real nice touch to the instrument. I had the chance to play Hervé's first mandolin and was very promising.

It looks like all the french mandolin players are "on-line" today ! I do agree with both Christian and Philippe (the lefty one ...),Hervé is making instruments that are getting better every time. About the red case, you should look for an Eastman case for F5, they are really good cases and guess what ? I've got a red one ... I'll send a picture soon but so far I'm in Alsace. Bonjour à tous ! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
