Wow! It's been a great long time sice I bought my copy of The Classical Mandolin, but it seems to me that I paid ca. 1/3 the prices listed for new!

Something I'd really love on my shelves is Morey's Mandolins of the 18th C. I've read it and still have access via the Ohiolink library system, but I'd favor the convenince of owning a copy. Does anybody know of one available?

Unfortunately, all those sources are dead ends. Amazon has it on all their sites, but it is out of stock. Great that Walmart will carry it!! Hey I can get my tube socks AND a copy of the Classical Mandolin. What a world!! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Luckily, thru Eugene and the grace of Mr. Sparks himself, I am getting a copy.

Otherwise, I do believe that Oxford UP will reprint the paper edition sometime this year.

I have The Classical Mandolin on advance order from WalMart for $27.00, I assume it's the yet-to-be released paperback.
The original release date was 2-2-04 but they keep changing it

According to Victor, (see 'Two part Inventions') you can probably get your socks in the Juilliard Shop nowadays!
As for Sparks book I'm afraid I've ordered it from OUP at vast expense 'cos I can't wait any longer. I'm looking forward to a good (if somewhat overpriced) read.

Did OUP actually tell you that they have it in stock? I was told that even the hardcover is a print-on-demand (I think that is what they call it) which might take weeks to get done anyway.

No, it's still not in stock. I ordered it 'print to order' (hardback) some two weeks ago and was told to expect it to take about 4 weeks. I ordered the Tyler/Sparks book from them a couple of months ago and it turned up in under a fortnight, so fingers crossed.

This one is still in print. Volume 2 comes up rarely...and I have never seen original printings of vols. 3 or 4 for sale, only bad xerographic copies. All are worth having.

Just to let you all know that my 'Print on demand' copy of Sparks book has turned up from OUP. I really would advise everyone to wait for the long promised paperback. It's bound like (and looks like) a very cheap and nasty desk diary and the paper quality is shocking.

Wow. I'm very glad I already have one or I might have been tempted by the shoddy POD version as well. My copy of Bone's Guitar and Mandolin is xerographic and held together by what is called "library binding." Still, the paper is of good quality and the binding is certainly durable; if anything it's more durable than standard.

I like this little wafer too; it is an expanded version of a section of Dr. Sparks's dissertation that didn't make it into the text of The Early Mandolin. #It used to be in the regular stock of Plucked String, Inc. (http://www.mandolincafe.com/strings/) at US$15.00. #I would guess it is still available for those looking to support Mr. Levine's programs, avoid eBay, and/or save 5 clams.

As someone on this list noted, this seller seem to have many books that Norman (Plucked String) has for less money. For instance, he has Terry Pender's Italian book for 19.00 which Plucked String has for $15.

Personally, I would rather buy from and support PS even at the same or lesser price. Norman will go out of his way to find and acquire things for us in the mandolin community. He deserves our support.
