I've always cut my side wood quarter sawn to show off the curl maybe a little better. I'm now building a quilted maple mandolin. Quilt usually looks better flat sawn. Is there any fall backs to using flat sawn on the sides? I would think it would at least bend nicely. Thanks in advance, Bryce

I've actually had more trouble bending slab sawn sides. They get more bumps and flat spots in my experience. I make my slab sides a bit thicker than quatersawn, usually .100".

I think you'll be fine with flat sawn sides, Dave.
