I am curious as to whether Gibson makes any of their mandolins custom with an oval hole instead of F holes. Their web page does not give any clue that they do custom work or even cut oval holes any more.

They have recently ressurrected the Flatiron line, and seem to be planning to have oval hole models in that line. There is one that has been sold a couple of times, you might be able to find a couple of threads about it, a very pretty blonde one. If you're interested, you should call Gibson OAI (http://www.gibson.com/Products/Bluegrass/Gibson%20Original/) and ask them.

They may have a line out shortly (or may not)

That's the mandolin i was talking about. It was sold a couple of times after that discussion. There are pictures somewhere. Nice looking, IMHO. I think they'd make you one if you ordered it.

I wish they would start making F-4 Gibson mandolin again! MAN would I love to have one. I start drooling every time I see a vintage one for sale in the classifieds! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif
