This cat "Harley" loves to sit with me when I'm playing. I'd like to say that she likes my playing but, truth be known, she's stone deaf.

But she can probably feel the vibration and thinks you're purring. So, since she's a cat, she would never admit it, but she's really doing it because she thinks you like it (which you probably do).

Fortunatly there is room for both on your lap.

Nice looking mandolin. What is it?

Cool pic. Our cat also digs my playing, but is too freaky to sit on laps, she was feral as a kitten. She comes around and purrs when I pick.

My cats cuddle in my lap for one of two things. Heat and to remind me of their need for food. She compliments your mando very well. Practically the same colors. Are her nails as easy to maintain as strings with your tailpiece? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/laugh.gif

I was wondering about the mandolin too. Binding looks like a BRW.

The mandolin is one of Hans Brentrup's masterpieces, a 23F with Tortoise and Red Spruce. A sure antidote for MAS and cats like em too!

How did you do that Arthur? Is it some kind of exotic transfer process or a serendipitous Rorschach?

I'm an artist.......it is one of my works on paper. I think it looks like Catlantis the lost continent, surrounded by water.
I started with a photo of my Maine Coon & manipulated it using Studio Artist and Photoshop.

And Jamie....since you brought it up...I hope you Mama doesn't have cat ears like that.......kinda devilish.

Arthur, I was just shooting the old Freudian thing. #Cool image. #Looks like an emboss filter. #Nice symetry, but judging by your stained glass, that's something that appeals to you.

Here is my 18 Year old siamese cat, Farroe, jamming out on his very rare 1923 Gibson A-Jr-Jr-Jr mouse-head mandolin.

Farroe has diverse repertoire ranging from dawg-music to the stray-cats. #He is available for both studio music and live gigs. #Works for cans of tuna and cat nip.

Django Fret,

I'd have to take that cat (or catwoman) over that mandolin and mando player every day. No offense intended to Dawg, but that cat rocks.

Last winter a nasty looking stray took up residence in my garage during a particularly cold period. #In the spring she let herself in the house once the doors were open and hasn't left. # She has good taste, and loves it when I play mandolin, although she bites me when I play fiddle... #

I love animals, but any cat(s) that caused my mandolin to fall off a table would swiftly become flying cats. Frank

Frank, I had similar thoughts after returning home from an appendix surgery. #During our cuddle session, Dearest-Kitty's claw become entangled in one of my stomache staples, eventually partially ripping it out.
Don't make kitties fly when they can't let go.
It took a few more days before I could belly up to a mandolin again.

I was so mad at my cat last night: after a stressful day, I sat down with a beer. In comes Moe, jumping right up on the arm of the chair: my beer spills all over the leather, and when I turn it upright, it foams and explodes like champagne. I run to the kitchen, trailing the sticky mess along the way while the cat tries to rub against my leg. Now I know why the word cat is in catapult! He was locked on the porch for the rest of the evening. When all was clean and safe, I pulled out my mando, glad I hadn't done so ten minutes earlier.

My oldest cat Torsten liked to play my mandolin when he was a baby.

And the other two liked to play with the strap.

Careful Susanne - My new puppy was playing with my strap like that and pulled the mandolin and stand both over. Thankfully, no damage to puppy or mandolin. I don't leave my mandos on the stand for now, until she is older and I am wiser. Frank
