Eastern maple cut on the quarter ......Im having a new mando made and this is what I want...or something close...any of you builders want to turn loose of a piece of this? Before you ask..Bruce..Aka...Spruce..cant help me..purdy huh?

That particular type of flame is very sought after among violin makers. The flame doesn't run perpendicular to the grain. You might contact some hi end violin wood sellers. It will likely be pricey esp. because it is quartersawn and one piece.

..thats what I was afraid of Chris...thanks for your input...I didnt know if perhaps the wood was turned at an angle when the back was laid out or what....
Do a search on ebay for curly maple. I have seen peices very similiar to that go for affordable prices. I was planning to do some ebay surfing tonight. I will let you know if i see something similiar.

Scotti, I can get you the wood you want. I have access to an incredible amount of curly maple of all types. I will send a two piece, bookmatched set (6 1/2" - 18"), AAA grade, of the character you want for $60.00. If you want a one piece like in the photo, the cost would be higher, but you can flip one of the pieces to get the one direction, diagonal all the way across look (like in the photo) with the right set. Funny that it's a Nugget you posted. Back in the early 80's, I used to try to get Mike to sell me something he didn't think he'd ever use, but he wouldn't part with anything. I saw his wood stash a few years ago and I think he's sitting on more than Gibson has.
This would make a good thread. Luthiers, show your wood stash.

10"+ is good. 9 7/8' is about bare minimum.
This board is slab sawn but the grain is running at about 45 degree's so it's from a pretty good sized tree

I probably shouldn't have posted it if I wasn't offering, but I think I'll hold on to it and let it season a little longer.
I have some people waiting and I'm very slow, but I haven't said anything about closing the list.
