That's a good question, and one that I had anticipated. He and I are from the same area, and after seeing my work he agreed to let me use his name as endorsement. Even though mandolins are probably not the first thing to come to mind when you think of Ralph Stanley, I think Dr. Stanley's accomplishments as an artist are extrodinary, and I am pleased to be affiliated with him. He doesn't need any help in the marketing aspect of things, but as a young builder, I certainly do! If that answers your question...

Frank Neat also uses the name "Stanleytone" on the banjos he builds for Ralph.
