Sunday will be one year since I've found my new love. And looking back at the strides that I took in just a short 365 days is unbelievable.

I don't know how a lot of you feel but I have to give dues to my Lord for how far I've come along. I told my wife that I'm going to use what I have to glorify Him and I know that He will honor me for that. The old saying goes though that if you don't have it in here (my head), then He won't use it out there (the audience).

Refelceting back I remember meeting Skip Kelley and AlanN back in the spring and the little time with them while I chopped and they threw notes back and forth REALLY helped me. I was even bold enough, (or just stupid), to take my mando out to a jam at Merlefest and sitting in a jam thinking I was really doing something. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

And now as the year is closing out, I'm actually the mandolin player in a Gospel group. Not doing a lot of lead playing but fill-ins and chops, but none the less, I'm playing in a band. Which is why I chose this instrument. The fellowship of others who enjoy the same music that I do and the fulfillment of "hopefully" entertaining those that listen.

Thanks Scott and all the others here that have helped me in sooooooooo many ways in this last year. Looking forward to another great year. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mandosmiley.gif

thanks Keith.

Another reflection was taking my mando to the county jail to play for the guys there. MAN, what an eye opener. But of course, nobody got up and walked out on me, I had a captive audience. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Hey Chris,

That's not that bad of an idea.

You never know!!!! Down the road you could release "csstanley's version of Folsom Prison". Your better yet "the walk the line" staring csstanley http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Good Post. It's great to know the source of our joys and that we must love in order to get it.

Merry Christmas and Best Wishes for the New Year.

Not too Ricky... You didn't talk about biscuits.

csstanly,
Congratulations, I have always enjoyed playing with others and it is rare that I play my instrument unless I am with someone else. Playing in a group is the best thing anyone could do, especially in terms of self improvement. The inspiration that comes from others is wonderful and the need to play well is the kind of pressure that is good for you.
I got tickets for my wife and I to see Ricky Scaggs on Jan. 5th. My wife told me that Ricky is one of the few she really wanted to see. Leo Kottke is the other one and I'm still working on that
one.
