i have a question. i want to buy a electric mandolin, i was thinking about mid-mo's. they have to types of electrics, one with 4 strings and one with 8 strings.
the 4 stringed has a kind of electric guitar bridge and the 8 stringed has a normal mandolin bridge. i want to know what the tonal difference are, and witch one is better for rock. so wich one is better for playing distored.
thanks,

4. To make a very broad generalization, 8-string electric is pretty much an electrified mandolin. 4-string or 5-string electrics are more like miniature electric guitars tuned in fifths. What I mean by that is that typical electric guitar sounds, phrases and tricks work better on a 4-string than trying to play bluegrass on one.

There's a whole area dedicated to 4- and 5-string electrics near the bottom of the board.
