I played with a guy for the first time tonite. We played for about 45 minutes trying to work out a duet because we will be playing together on a regular basis for a church worship service.

What I want to figure out is what would be a good combo. My mandolin seemed to class at times with his guitar even though we were in the same key in the song. We were both in tune. My mando is fairly bright and crisp and on the treble side.

Would maybe a zouk be more complimentry to a guitar? Both playing chords but having different voices.

This of course could be a good reason for me to convince my wife it was a good idea for me to get a new instrument. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

sounds like an intonation problem to me. have you checked each fret with a tuner? thats always real interesting.
zoukis are more forgiving, but if you listen to some live recordings of bazoukis, you'll hear some "compromised" intonation here and there
