I am interested in finding a brown leather gig bag with backpack straps. I tried a google search but had no luck. Does anyone know of a leather shop or company that makes one?

Thanks, Hal

Yes! Glenn Cronkhite (http://www.glenncronkhite.com/a_few_words.html), in Berkeley. He's the guy who started and was the brains behind Reunion Blues before they got smuggled off to China and divebombed. He's still quietly working in Berkeley and his work and his designs are exquisite. He's best known for horn bags, but he makes bags for absolutely anything musical. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

I would think any Saddelry would be able to make whatever you asked them to. Tenessee has to be loaded with fellers and gals praticing the art of leather making. I think its saddelry.. What do you call someone who makes leather things, purses, saddle bags and such? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif

a hippie or amish.....
actually they are called "leatherworkers" and they sometimes work in "tanneries".

I remember when our sixth grade calss went on a field trip to the amish farm and they let us make anything we wanted out of leather in the tannery. All the boys made whips and promptly began to whip the bejeebus out of each other. "Son how was your field trip? and why are you covered in welts?"

Mark- now that's not far from the truth. But then again, look around. Lot's of us are like that. Sort of, at least. My first beautiful banjo strap was made my a guy most people would call a hippie, but he ran a successful small leather shop and did beautiful work. Now he's teaching troubled young adults to build houses. See- ya never know.

Here's a second vote for Glenn Cronkhite's work as mentioned in Paul Hostetter's post above. He makes absolutely the best leather or fabric gig bags anywhere. His leather mandolin bags are the toughest out there, and his guitar bags are really the only ones to consider.

Where are the (Greatful) DEAD HEADS when you need 'em?http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

I just remembered... we used to have a "Harness Shop" in our little town before he 'modernized' to TV repair.
