The topic comes up from time to time. The only song that Jimmy Page ever played mandolin on live at Zep shows was The Battle of Evermore from the 1977 acoustic sets. John Paul Jones played the 6-string of his triple neck and Jimmy played a (teens?) Gibson oval hole A.

Here's a video clip from the 7-17-77 Seattle show:

Nice clip. Jones' singing was a little painful, though, especially side-be-side against Plant's signature voice!

Hmmm, great clip. Can you tell what type of mandolin he is playing?

I just got to it.

Thanks for the link BTW. It really brings back memories -- I saw that tour in Cinci (I guess I'm dating myself. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif )

Thanks Jeff, it's always nice to see a mando in the hands of Jimmy Page...

In his 1977 Guitar Player magazine interview he says it's an A-4. Don't know what year, though.

That multi neck instrument is a monster. I'd love to have some freaky thing like that.

On the original it was the great Sandy Denny singing with Plant. Even Plant had a hard time living up to her. So I feel for John Paul Jones, although that's some bad singing. Thanks for the clip though, it's terrific.

Maybe they had too many "Ballard Shooters" before the show here in Seattle? ( a Ballard shooter is lutefisk in a shot of vodka) http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif

Seems to be that this really isn't Mr. Page playing, just a dedicated fan and likely tribute band member...

Alright, I trudged through all the YT comments (all 10 pages) and that guy is Jimmy Sakuri from a Japanese tribute band....wipes egg from face...

This video is without question Jimmy Page playing a mandolin on some three necked instrument...hate to have to change the strings out on that one.

I saw it in Phoenix. The acoustic set was great!
